Outback Events is proud to present the 8th Annual Desert Half Triathlon and we are looking forward to welcoming back those who have raced with us before and those who will be first time racers with us. The Desert Half is located in Osoyoos, B.C, home  of Canada ’s only true desert, where the race has steadily been gaining recognition as “Canada’s Toughest Half Iron”.

The race course is a Half Iron Distance that consists of a 2km swim, 90km bike and 21km run. An open water swim consists of a 2 loop course in Osoyoos Lake that is described as the warmest lake in Canada.  An epic bike course, out and back, is on the most challenging part of the Ironman course up Richter pass to Cawston where you turn around. The return trip is on the old Ironman Course up the back of the Richter Pass and then into Osoyoos.

Remember, when you’re on the return trip to look for the Spotted Lake.  This is a rare and natural phenomenon covering 38 acres. It contains extremely high concentrations of minerals such as Epsom salts, calcium and sodium sulfates. In the hot sun, the water evaporates, crystallizing the minerals, forming many white-rimmed circles. These shallow pools reflect the mineral content of the water in shades of blues and greens. It is an amazing site to see!!

The run is a 2 loop course that has you run while looking at the beautiful scenery of the lake beside you. Remind your family members that you will be running by Legion Beach two times where Jordan Back and all the spectators can be there to cheer you on to your second lap and the highly anticipated finish line.

Please join us in July 2012, to experience first hand Osoyoos B.C. and the Desert Half Iron, “ Canada’s Toughest Half Iron”.
